Local churches or UMC-affiliated organizations can sponsor a retirement plan through Wespath Benefits and Investments. We offer the following retirement plans:

United Methodist Personal Investment Plan (UMPIP)
UMPIP is a 403(b) retirement savings individual account plan. Employees can choose to make before-tax, Roth and/or after-tax contributions to a personal account. In addition, employers may elect to contribute to participant retirement accounts. Learn more.

Horizon 401(k) Plan
Horizon is a 401(k) is an individual account-based retirement savings plan for Church-related nonprofit organizations. Participants can make before-tax and/or Roth contributions through payroll deductions. Plan sponsors can also contribute to the employee retirement account on their behalf.

The Wespath Advantage

Participants can invest their UMPIP or Horizon 401(k) account balance among Wespath funds or use LifeStage Investment Management to delegate the management of their investments to trusted, experienced professionals. Upon retirement, plan participants can use LifeStage Retirement Income to manage their distributions and provide automated monthly payments calculated to last for the participant’s lifetime.

Wespath offers 24/7 online access to account information through Benefits Access, the website for participant retirement account(s), projection tools and investment information. Benefits Access is accessible via tablets, desktop computers and cell phones. If they prefer, participants can call Wespath’s Customer Service during regular business hours regarding their account.

For participants in Wespath retirement plans, we offer financial planning services through EY, a leading global financial services firm. EY representatives have been specially trained in Wespath-administered plans and programs. EY Financial Planning Services are made available by Wespath to active participants with an account balance, surviving spouses with an account balance, and terminated/retired participants with an account balance of at least $10,000.
