Professional preparation for church leadership and personal spiritual enrichment are vital for clergy to maintain passion for ministry. However, research indicates that church attendance is not as beneficial for the health and well-being of clergy as it is for laity. To cultivate spiritual health, clergy should set aside time for personal spiritual practices, separate from sermon/Bible study preparation. Meeting regularly with a pastoral counselor or spiritual director may also be important to the pastor’s own spiritual growth.
