Retirement Plan for General Agencies (RPGA)

An Internal Revenue Code section 403(b) defined contribution retirement plan available to employees of United Methodist Church general agencies sponsoring the plan. The plan is designed to provide participants with one element of their overall retirement portfolio.

The sponsoring general agency will make plan sponsor contributions to RPGA accounts in an amount equal to 8% of monthly compensation for those clergy or lay employees who are scheduled to be, reasonably expected to be, or actually employed for at least 1,000 hours per plan year.

In addition, the general agency will match participant before-tax, Roth and/or after-tax contributions to United Methodist Personal Investment Plan (UMPIP) (up to 2% of compensation) and deposit the matching contributions into the participant’s RPGA account. Both part-time and full-time employees are eligible to receive matching contributions.
