The Pre-82 Plan is a 403(b) retirement plan that provides benefits to eligible United Methodist Church clergy with service before 1982. The Pre-82 Plan is part of the Clergy Retirement Security Program (CRSP).

Who Can Participate?

Pre-82 was closed to new enrollments and no contributions were made after December 31, 1981. The Pre-82 Plan was replaced by the Ministerial Pension Plan (MPP) effective January 1, 1982. Participants who were vested in the plan before 1982 are eligible to receive benefits at retirement or at age 62 for terminated clergy.*

How Does Pre-82 Work?

The Pre-82 Plan provides a monthly lifetime benefit based on your years of service to the Church. When you become eligible to receive benefits, you may choose to begin your monthly benefit payments immediately or defer to a later date.

Your Benefits

If you participated in the Pre-82 Plan, you can view your estimated monthly benefit and information for other Wespath retirement accounts online through Benefits Access. You can also apply for your benefits online through Benefits Access.

If you have questions about the Pre-82 Plan, call a Wespath representative at 1-800-851-2201 business days from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Central time.

* Active clergy who terminate under ¶360 of The Book of Discipline are treated as terminated vested participants. Monthly lifetime benefits in CRSP, and Pre-82 are converted to an equivalent account balance, which is transferred along with any account balance in CRSP and MPP, to the United Methodist Personal Investment Plan (UMPIP).
