Overview
The Collins Retiree Health Plan provides a supplementary health benefit to eligible retired missionaries who served with Global Ministries. The benefit is based on your years of eligible credited missionary service.
Wespath administers the Collins Retiree Health Plan. The plan offers funding through a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA), with support from Via Benefits to select supplementary coverage from the individual Medicare Marketplace for those eligible for Medicare.
Who is Eligible
You are eligible for the Collins Retiree Health Plan if you are a retired missionary who served with Global Ministries and meet the plan’s service requirements. The benefit is based on years of eligible credited missionary service and requires at least 20 years of qualifying service (or 15 years if service began before 1997) to be eligible.
If you do not meet these criteria, you are not eligible for this plan.
How the Benefit Works
Under the Collins Retiree Health Plan, eligible retirees receive HRA funding based on years of service. This funding is available through a tax-advantaged Health Reimbursement Arrangement administered by Via Benefits.
The HRA allows you to be reimbursed for eligible health care expenses, including insurance premiums and medical out-of-pocket costs, up to your annual maximum funding amount.
Unused HRA funds roll over from year to year.
Benefits are only available to the retiree and no dependent benefits are provided. Initial enrollment requests are submitted to Wespath by Global Ministries.
Ensuring Access to Your HRA
U.S.-based Medicare-Eligible Retirees
If you are eligible for Medicare and live or receive the majority of your routine care in the United States, you must enroll in a Medicare supplement or Medicare Advantage plan through Via Benefits to initially qualify for your HRA funding. You must remain enrolled in a plan through Via Benefits to remain qualified for your HRA funding.
Via Benefits advisors help Medicare-eligible retirees select and enroll in a plan when first eligible or each year during Medicare Open Enrollment. You are not required to re-enroll each year if you do not wish to change plans. Once enrolled through Via Benefits, you can use your HRA to reimburse yourself for plan premiums and eligible out-of-pocket costs.
International Retirees and Retirees Not Enrolled in Medicare
If you are not eligible for Medicare or you live and receive most of your routine care outside the United States, you do not need to enroll in a Medicare supplement or Medicare Advantage plan through Via Benefits to receive your HRA funding.
