Wespath Benefits and Investments Quadrennial Benefits Conferences

Wespath Benefits and Investments (formerly the General Board of Pension and Health Benefits) invites you to attend the 2016-2020 Quadrennial Benefits Conferences (QBCs) to be held in two locations across the country. They are designed to help equip conference boards of pensions members, benefits officers, cabinets, and other conference leaders in supporting clergy and lay workers of the Church through the UMC’s benefits programs. These quadrennial training experiences will provide the opportunity to:

  • educate new conference board of pension members about the benefits plans and services for lay and clergy participants of The United Methodist Church and the conference board’s responsibilities for those plans,
  • understand the benefits-related changes made by the 2016 General Conference, and
  • consider how the benefit plans and the recently approved 2016 General Conference changes affect conference decisions.

“Navigating the Path”

As we begin a new quadrennium, there are pending changes in benefit plans, the continuing challenge of providing appropriate and sustainable benefits, uncertainty in the UMC about its future, and as much need as ever for the Church’s tasks of disciple-making and transformation.

Please join us for a QBC this fall as we all move along the path toward retirement and financial security, personal and missional vitality, and the achievement of investment objectives through the benefit and investment programs of The United Methodist Church. As always, we look forward to partnering with you to collectively recognize, appreciate and jointly navigate the responsibilities and changes awaiting all of us.

The QBCs are intended not only to assist conference boards, benefits officers and other conference leaders in their benefits-related duties, but also to strengthen the partnership between Wespath and conference boards as we work together to care for those who serve.

Each QBC will include:

  • Orientation and basic training for new Conference Board of Pensions (CBOP) members
  • Workshops for experienced CBOP members and other benefits/financial leaders
  • Sessions for Cabinet members on benefits considerations relating to appointments and impacts on local churches and pastors
  • Targeted educational and review sessions for conference benefit staff that will intersect with their day to day responsibilities

The QBCs should prove especially helpful for the following:

  • Conference Benefits Officers
  • Conference Treasurers
  • Conference Board of Pensions chairpersons and other Conference Board officers
  • Cabinet Representatives to the Conference Board of Pensions
  • Other Cabinet members, including District Superintendents, Board of Ordained Ministry staff, or Bishop’s Assistants
  • New or returning Conference Board of Pension members
  • Benefits Administrators / Assistants

Each QBC will begin on a Thursday at 1:00p.m. and conclude before 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. On-site check-in will be held on the opening day from 11:00a.m.-1:00p.m. Dates and locations are in the “Event Locations” section below.
